Maiastra are pleased to present two wonderful string quartets, directed by internationally-renowned violinist Florence Cooke. On the programme is Mendelssohn’s dramatically passionate String Quartet in E minor, Op. 44 No. 2. This will be followed by Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 14 in C# minor, Op. 131. This monumental string quartet, in seven movements and played without breaks, was completed less than one year before his death. Schubert famously remarked, “After this, what is left for us to write?”.
