Maiastra is delighted to spotlight the return of the exceptional Consone Quartet to Wigmore Hall for two highly anticipated concerts on 27 April and 28 June. Renowned for their vibrant, historically informed performances on period instruments, the Consone Quartet continues to captivate audiences with interpretations that are both deeply considered and strikingly fresh.
We are especially proud to celebrate the connection between the Consone Quartet and the Maiastra community: violinist Agata Daraskaite and violist Elitsa Bogdanova and are both Maiastra alumni. Between them, Elitsa and Agata have participated in seven Maiastra courses between 2013 and 2019. In March last year, they both returned to perform in Maiastra’s centenary concert, which coincided with what would have been Aidan Woodcock’s 100th birthday, the founder of the charity.
Formed at the Royal College of Music in London, the quartet has rapidly established itself as one of the leading ensembles of its generation. Their rise has been marked by a series of prestigious accolades, including prizes at the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition, the Royal Over-Seas League Ensemble Prize, and a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship. As BBC New Generation Artists, they have further cemented their reputation for excellence on both national and international stages.
Their performances are celebrated for their honesty and expressive depth, particularly in repertoire from the Classical and Romantic eras. Whether exploring the nuanced textures of Haydn or the lyrical intensity of Mendelssohn, the Consone Quartet brings a distinctive clarity and emotional immediacy that has earned widespread critical acclaim.
The ensemble’s recent and upcoming seasons reflect an exciting breadth of activity. From major festival appearances across Europe to collaborations with distinguished artists such as Kristian Bezuidenhout, Helen Charlston, and Alexander Gadjiev, the quartet continues to expand its artistic horizons. Their commitment to new music is equally compelling, with premieres of works by composers including Gavin Bryars and Oliver Leith demonstrating a dynamic engagement with contemporary repertoire.
At the heart of the quartet’s identity isalso a deep commitment to education and community engagement, working withyoung musicians across the UK and internationally. This dedication to nurturingthe next generation resonates strongly with Maiastra’s own mission.
The upcoming concerts at Wigmore Hall promise to be highlights of the chamber music calendar. Audiences can expect programmes that showcase the quartet’s refined musicianship, historical insight, and unmistakable ensemble chemistry in one of London’s most iconic venues.
Join us in celebrating the Consone Quartet this season—two concerts not to be missed.
